THE UNABORTED SOUL
Peter Kreeft, professor of philosophy at Boston College and a convert to Catholicism, came out with a book several years ago entitled “The Unaborted Socrates.” In it, the Socrates of old suddenly appears in modern Athens to have a dialogue about abortion with, among others, a contemporary utilitarian philosopher. Socrates boils each argument down to where it must face the real issue. Is or is not a fetus a person? But, as often the argument logically leads back to this one consideration, as many times is it dodged. Instead Socrates is accused of lacking compassion for mothers.
